To accommodate the expansion of Arlington National Cemetery, including 80,000 new burial spaces on 50 acres, this design-build project realigns and reconfigures streets, sidewalks, and bicycle routes. The project improves multi-modal capacity and safety by adding pedestrian and bicycle facilities, with access to the Air Force Memorial, and additional street lighting. In addition, the project relocates utilities owned by 8 utility providers. Project features include water quality BMPs, archaeological and human remains discoveries, phased Maintenance of Traffic, and stakeholder coordination including FHWA, VDOT, Arlington County, and Arlington National Cemetery.
Quality Control Management:
CES provides inspection, testing, and documentation of the project to verify conformance with the project requirements and facilitate solutions to design and field issues.
Utility Management:
CES provides utility coordination with eight utility providers, VDOT, Arlington County, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Air Force Memorial. This involves conflict identification and mitigation throughout the life of the project. In addition, we are verifying relocations to ensure accurate adjustments are being performed and developing GPS as-built mapping of all the relocated utilities.
Construction:
CES’ Construction at Risk division is installing 72 decorative and standard light poles along with new VDOT, Arlington, and Air Force fiber cables.
