GoTriangle Light Rail

This project involved studying the feasibility of constructing a $2.4B, 17-mile light rail system that would provide 26,000 trips each day and connect three major universities and three major medical facilities.

Project Controls:
As part of the Construction Management Services (CMS) team, CES developed the conceptual construction schedule of the entire project including the new rail operations and maintenance facility. In addition, CES supported the CMS team with contract packaging documents that helped GoTriangle better manage their funding and budget. While these tasks were on-going, GoTriangle also asked the team to provide an in-depth bottoms-up project cost estimate to facilitate the design process and design package.

Notable Accomplishments:
CES provided an in-depth bottoms-up cost estimate and developed a master schedule that was instrumental in getting grant approval from FTA. FTA was pleased with the methodology and approach and conceptually granted the funding for the construction. CES’ effort in the contract packaging process would help the owner with the procurement and test run of the light rail cars without affecting the overall construction schedule.
